Strength:

  • Do pavers have the same strength as concrete?

Yes, our pavers have an average rating of 8000 psi after they are cured. For comparison, a typical 4″ concrete driveway will have a psi rating of 2500-3000. Thus, by using concrete pavers your paved surface will be stronger, more flexible, more vibrant, and more aesthetically pleasing.

1 Pavers:

  • Can I put pavers over my concrete, Chattahoochee, River rock, Acrylic patio, walkway, Pool Deck?

Yes, thin pavers were designed to cover existing surfaces with the exception of wood and carpet.

  • Can I place 1″ pavers over a concrete driveway?

No, although our thin pavers are beautiful and perfect for overlying an existing pool deck, they are not made to withstand the weight of heavy vehicles.

Excavation:

  • Do I need to remove existing concrete to have pavers installed?

This will depend on the area and condition of the concrete where you are installing pavers.

Drainage:

  • Do pavers pool water like a concrete slab?

No, the water drains through the joints between each paver, and the balance of water follows the gradient away from the house. This is especially important in rain-soaked Florida.

  • What do I do about the existing drainage system on my pool deck? Do I need Deck-O-Drain or a drainage system?

Each situation is unique and we will determine your specific needs by evaluating your deck’s elevation and pitch.

Sealer:

  • Can pavers be sealed?

Yes, sealing your pavers protects them from oil stains and natures effects over time. They stay much cleaner for much longer if you seal your pavers right after installation. We use breathable type sealers that protect against just about any type of stain and make cleaning your pavers a breeze.

Grass/Weeds:

  • What about grass growing in the cracks and ant infestation?

The vast majority of weed and ant killer products will not harm your pavers. However, always test your products in an inconspicuous area before using.

Efflorescence:

  • What is efflorescence?

It is a whitish powder-like deposit which sometimes appears on concrete or clay products. The deposit is the residue of a soluble salt carried to the face of the product by moisture and left on the surface as a dry powder following evaporation. This is a natural effect that occurs with all concrete products. Efflorescence in no way affects the structural integrity of the pavers.

  • Where do the salts come from?

The salts are found in the native soil, the gravel base, sand, stone, or in the cement used to manufacture the paving stones.

  • What happens if I have to do a repair job below the pavers, will it leave an unsightly patch mark?

No, that is one of the long-term benefits of installing pavers. They can be removed to make
necessary repairs and the pavers can be installed again in most situations.

Edges:

  • How are pavers secured?

Pavers are interlocking and sand is used to keep them from moving, then the perimeter is mortared on any loose edges to keep the field in place.

Additional Questions:

  • How long do I have to wait before I drive on my pavers?

Once the pavers are installed, there is usually no waiting, and you can drive on them immediately. Special situations may occur that prevent this and remember to be careful on the edges of the design since the concrete mortar needs 24 hours to set fully.

  • What is the difference between “Clay Pavers & Concrete Pavers”?

Clay pavers are made with real clay that is mixed, extruded and baked in a kiln at very high
temperatures and concrete pavers are made with a special blend of concrete and coloring that is compacted at very high pressures in a special machine.

  • Which type of paver is better?

There is very little difference between pavers in general. The important difference is the maker of the pavers. Paving materials can vary from one manufacturer to next. The qualities that make a paver perfect are its compressive strength, water absorption rate and abrasion index.

  • What does “Interlocking Paving” mean?

Interlocking paving is a misleading term. What actually constitutes interlocking is really a dynamic function containing three different components. They are “rotational interlock” (resistance to tipping) “horizontal interlock” (resistance to spreading) “vertical interlock (resistance to sinking)”. So, that means for lasting quality you need good containment, good sub-base and proper paver thickness. Thicker pavers for driveways thinner pavers for patios.

  • After you’re done Paving the work surfaces should I Seal It?

Yes, it protects it from leaky cars that might leave oil stains and it stays cleaner for much longer if you seal it right away before it has a chance to get stained. Remember when it’s sealed it only takes a hose to clean it off. We use breathable type sealers that protect against just about anything.
